2015's 48 Hour Book Challenge Finish Line Post

I'd like to say I completely enjoyed this year's challenge, but it was difficult to enjoy my reading times due to a family emergency that didn't get resolved on Saturday like we thought it would (God had other plans). Still, I'm glad I got to participate and I surpassed the 12 hour goal I set for myself.

Here are my final stats.

Friday reading: 1 hour, 43 minutes
Friday social media: 12 minutes

Saturday reading: 3 hours, 47 minutes
Saturday social media: 25 minutes

Sunday reading: 9 hours, 30 minutes
Sunday social media: I did some, but it was too sporadic to keep track of.

My final tally of reading and time on blogs, Twitter, etc. is 15 hours and 37 minutes.

I completed All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven and made it part way through both Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling and Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson.

Thanks to Pam for hosting the challenge again this year. It's always tons of fun and I especially enjoy discovering (or rediscovering) everyone's great blogs.

To those who finished, congratulations. To those still pushing through...Happy Reading. And to all...a good night.

Juli

One Book Completed

I got in a good chunk of reading time this morning. Then, just after noon I finished my first book of the challenge, All the Bright Places. It was really well written. In fact, if you decide to read this one, have Kleenex handy. I have a feeling this book will be one that sticks with me for a long time to come.

We're now heading home from our Father's Day weekend road trip. So I'm getting another good chunk of reading time by listening to more of the audio book I chose for the challenge. It may just be that I reach my minimum goal of 12 hours before my stop time of 8 p.m.

Stats so far today:
6:04-7:05 (1 hr., 1 min.) All the Bright Places
8:58-10:16 (1 hr., 18 min) All the Bright Places
11:39-12:01 (22 min.) All the Bright Places
12:08-12:16 (8 min) All the Bright Places

Total reading time so far 2 hours 48 minutes.

Time to call it a day

Life got in the way today and I didn't have as much down time for reading today as I thought I would. Consequently I lost my reading momentum. It's now 9:58 p.m. and common sense tells me I need to head off to dreamland. I've got until 8:00 tomorrow night, so we'll see how far I get.

Here are the stats for the rest of the day:

10:39-10:54 (15 minutes) All the Bright Places
2:43-2:53 (10 minutes) reading other participants' blogs
4:12-4:57 (45 minutes) All the Bright Places
9:16-9:54 (38 minutes) All the Bright Places

Total reading for today 3 hours 47 minutes
Social media for today 25 minutes

Total reading and social media time so far 6 hours 7 minutes

My minimum goal is 12 hours, so I'm just over half way there. Now, though, it's time to rest up for another day of reading.

Sleep well, everyone.

Day Two's Progress

For me day two of reading started about 5:30 a.m. I hit the road for a 7 mile run and used that time to start my chosen audio book Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. That got me an hour and forty-six minutes of reading...yaay for more progress!

After my run I got in about twenty-three minutes of All the Bright Places before it was time to go out for breakfast. My dad drove to and from breakfast, so I got in a bit of social media time. There's some down time going on now amid all the family events of the weekend, so it's back to reading for me. Here are my stats so far:

5:31-7: 27 (106  minutes) Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Audio)
8:28-8:51 (23 minutes) All the Bright Places (Print)
8:55-9:03 (8 minutes) reading other participants' blogs
10:10-10:17 (7 minutes) reading other participants' blogs

Total reading so far today 2 hours, 9 minutes
Social media so far today 15 minutes.

Hope everyone has a happy reading day.

Day is Done

I'm off to a fairly decent start. For my first print book I chose All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. I heard about this book back in January and knew it belonged on my "to read" pile. I saved it specially for this book challenge. So far I'm on page 62 and am loving it. One of the main characters, Theodore Finch, is especially endearing. I look forward to seeing how his story ends.

I was hoping to get farther tonight, but alas, I must get some sleep. I'm planning to do a long run in the morning and want to get out right at sunrise so I won't have to run in as much direct sunlight. That means an early wake up time.

Here are my stats so far:

8:10-9:03 (53 minutes) read All the Bright Places

9:03-9:05 (2 minutes) read posts on Twitter (#48hbc) and checked out the starting line on motherreader's blog

9:07-9:57 (50 minutes) read All the Bright Places

9:58- 10:08 (10 minutes) Blogging my first session of reading for this challenge.

Total reading time: 1 hour 43 minutes
Total social media time: 12 minutes

Good night all and happy reading.

48 Hour Book Challenge 2015

Today marks the start of the tenth annual 48 Hour Book Challenge at www.motherreader.com. My official start time will be 8:00 this evening, but I was too excited to wait any longer to make my starting line post. I've got an e-book, an audio book, and four print books lined up and ready to go. Due to family commitments I'm not sure how much reading time I'll get in, but I look forward to finishing whatever I can.

Happy reading all.
