Done for Another Year

From 3:27-5:30 tonight I read Incarceron by Catherine Fisher. Today's total is 2 hours and three minutes.

My total reading time this year was as follows:

Friday - 51 minutes
Saturday - 12 hours 8 minutes
Sunday - 2 hours 3 minutes

Total time read: 15 hours and 2 minutes.
Books: Listened to a portion of one book, completed a book and started one more.

Didn't quite beat my time from last year or the number of books, but it was an enjoyable weekend nonetheless. Looking forward to next June.

Into the home stretch

Just getting started on my reading for today. After church and lunch I had to put the book I finished yesterday into my book journal. Then I needed to write up Saturday's reading report.

My tally so far today is 41 minutes to log and blog my books.

Now I'm off to start Incarceron by Catherine Fisher. I've got two hours and six minutes to go, so I should get a nice start on this one.

Happy Reading All!

Saturday's reading

I had the house to myself yesterday and got a ton of reading done. In the morning I had to run some errands and do some things around the house, so I took advantage of the challenge rule that allows one audiobook.

In all I spent approximately 3 hours and 28 minutes listening to Dog On It by Spencer Quinn. In this book a dog named Chet tells how he and his owner Bernie, a private detective, solve the case of a missing teenager. Normally I don't like books told from an animals point of vie. However, Chet has won me over. He's got a humorous way of analyzing human behavior and may be one of my new favorite main characters. I've still got a ways to go on this book, but so it's a five star read.

Then, I got to spend the afternoon finishing a book I started back in June, United States Army: the Definitive Illustrated Edition by D.M. Giangreco. It took me 8 hours and 40 minutes, but it's done. I give this one four out of five stars. The author gives detailed history of the U.S. Army, uniforms, weapons, and battles beginning before the American Revolution and covering through Afghanistan in 2011. He left out what I think must have been key moments in our country's military history though, such as African American soldiers, women in combat, and don't ask, don't tell. Hence the four stars out of five. If you, like me have forgotten much of what you learned in high school history class, I highly recommend this book.

Total reading time for Saturday = 12 hours and 8 minutes.

Finally Taking the 2013 Challenge

Back in June the author of the Ms. Yingling Reads blog hosted the annual 48 Hour Book Challenge on behalf of motherreader. I wasn't able to participate then, but am doing so unofficially this weekend.

I started at 5:30 tonight, Friday August 2nd and will go until 5:30 Sunday August 4th. So far I'm off to a bit of a slow start. I've only listened to a small amount of an audio book. Tomorrow I should make much greater headway.

Here's what I've accomplished so far:

5:30-5:48 Listened to Dog On It by Spencer Quinn
5:48-6:05 Listened to Dog On It by Spencer Quinn
6:12-6:28 Listened to Dog On It by Spencer Quinn

Total time so far: 51 minutes

We have an unusually early start to the day tomorrow, so that means it's early to bed. I'm excited to finally be able to see if I can best last year's totals.
